While we agree that for some operations and procedures this may be correct, for many of the routine maintenance tasks you're going to need a service manual in order to figure out what may seem, at first glance, to be a 'simple' task (actually, those things that you think are really simple can be the most mind-bending in complexity, until you've done them a time or two.). Some people seem to think that working on a bike is 'simple', and therefore they don't need a service manual. Although it's fun to be adventurous, creative, and daring at times, wrenching on the bike is not one of those times.
